Turns out we have over 20 flowers that bloom year round in San Diego! This is great news for brides looking for floral guidance. If you know what is in season during the month you are getting married, you are more likely to dream up a bouquet that is feasible & pocket-friendly (would you really want to foot the bill for a floral airline ticket? Probably not too budget friendly).
Leah from Bespoke Floral & Event Design gives some expert advice on local blooms and what to be wary of when building your floral vision for your wedding day.
Or, try succulents or airplants (GORGEOUS airplant in the bouquet above designed by Leah from Bespoke)! These non-floral bouquet counterparts really make a statement and are so on trend.
Just because these flowers are available year 'round doesn't mean that you have the range of color choices that you'll have when each is in season. Yes, you can pretty much get dahlias all year now, but, if you have your heart set on Cafe au Lait dahlias, you're going to have to have a summer or fall wedding! Also, if having a small carbon footprint is important to you, stick with flowers that are locally blooming for your wedding date. Flowers are flown in from all over the world to keep up with our seasonal denial- and that's a burden on the environment not to mention, the flowers are so much more costly.
Lastly, embrace seasonality. Right now, anemones, ranunculus, and lilac are all at the top of their games; it's a shame when these gorgeous blooms get overlooked for a spring wedding. Whenever you use flowers in their peak moments, you're sure to have something special (and a grateful floral designer, too!).
You can catch more of Leah's blooms in this real wedding.

Victoria and Luke found a hidden gem in Downtown L.A. to tie the knot in a Gatbsy-style affair.
After meeting on eHarmony, Luke proposed on a vineyard in Paso Robles. "Luke called ahead and told the winemaker about his plan to propose, so the winemaker opened the winery just for us," Victoria says. "We had a couple of glasses of wine in the tasting room and went for a walk in this beautiful olive grove overlooking the vineyard. I commented that I wouldn't want to get married at a vineyard and would prefer 'something urban in the city.' This gave Luke the perfect segue, and he proposed right there."
She wanted a classic, timeless venue that also paid tribute to her hometown of Los Angeles, and the couple found their dream location at Cafe Pinot, which is nestled between the Central Library and Maguire Gardens. "It's this little hidden enclave amidst all these skyscrapers," she says. "So many of our guests were lifelong L.A. residents and didn't even know it was there. I loved that."
The art deco-meets-modern library space begged for some literary details, which led to library book-style wedding invitations inspired by a discontinued Great Gatsby cover from the early 20th century, response cards to look like library cards, and library catalog cards as escort cards. "The library décor really took on a mind of its own," Victoria says.

Modern luxury meets historical grandeur in this stunning Hotel del Coronado wedding.
When I look through photos of Stefanie & Brad's over-the-top-beautiful wedding I can almost smell the exotic orchids and roses that lined the aisle and filled the reception hall. All of the sparkle, from the tabletops to the invitations, radiates off of my computer screen and has me awestruck. Every photo had me more entranced and kept me in a dream-like state (it really wreaked havoc on my productivity at work - but I'm not complaining!)
To me, the bride is always the most stunning subject at a wedding, Stefanie was no exception. Her softly wrapped mermaid gown suited her perfectly. I also couldn't take my eyes off of her glowing makeup, brilliantly created by the artistry of Ashley Fierro at My Girls on Film Studios.
Hope you enjoy the photos as much as I did! Who knows, maybe you'll be inspired to add just a bit more sparkle to your wedding too.
